Other Rheological Applications
The science of rheology has been virtually ignored
during the information technology boom. Advances in computers
have enabled new tools that can use the physics of rheology in
a wide variety of applications. Below are just two examples the
company has begun to study.
Food
Manufacturing & Processing
The current practice of measuring the consistency
of ketchup is to fill an hourglass or slotted spoon with ketchup
and measure the speed of the drops. From this calculation they
adjust the water concentration. The Boston Rheology instrument
could measure the viscoelasticity of the fluid with a greater
degree of accuracy.
Used
Motor Oil
Used motor oil is frequently disposed of at a
pre-determined time, even though the oil may still be useable.
By measuring the viscosity of the oil, it can be determined whether
the oil is broken down and should be disposed of, or is still
good and can continue to be used.
